The first fruits for this seaon's trials are ripe! Time to think about filing reports, so future growers can know what tastes and grows good! Gang members who need report forms will find them at the ITG Potting Shed.

Did you see my tomatoes?

Why in the world would anyone volunteer to dedicate a portion of his or her garden to growing "mystery" tomatoes started from seeds that were identified only with a number. No name. No indication of size, color, days to maturity, type. Just seeds and report forms to document the plants' progress from sowing seed to the final pulling of vines at the end of the season.

When all was said and done (including the burning desire to find/invent/improvise a label that would absolutely, positively, never-ever come separated from the plant it was meant to stay "tied to"), growers completed the Spring 99 trials rated the trials, as well as the tomatoes each of them had grown.

The greatest service which can be rendered any country is to add a useful plant to its culture.

SLUGS AFTER YOUR TOMATOES?

Another deterrent for slugs in the spring is to plant radishes as a trap crop. They just love radish plants. -- Joe Cavanaugh
